Frequently Asked Questions
Eden parking garage is the easiest, but it can sometimes be expensive, there are shuttle services you can use if you use street parking, and there are other garages that they offer on the parking portal!
Parking passes sell out… fast… Usually Fall goes on sale July 17… Spring goes on sale Dec. 1…. They will sell out for the Eden garage because the COM and Children’s Hospital also use this garage… don’t wait unless you want to pay to park everyday (~$10/day)…which is almost double the cost for a pass.
I highly recommend going to study lab! It offers insights from students who had the same classes and professors before. It also offers practice questions and cases that can be answered by the study lab coordinator right then and there!
Personally, my favorite study spot is any room with a whiteboard. Specifically, the rooms on either side of KOW 140. Sometimes I move over to the medical building when I need a change of scenery and go to the library.
A personal study strategy of mine is to write the main objectives out on a whiteboard, moving to specifics or something the teacher highlighted during class, and using LOTS of different expo markers. I find the information easier to recall during the exam.
Sometimes it can be difficult to find school-work balance right away and that's okay! If you can afford to, try working the minimum hours your job requires you to and then work your way up. Work is definitely important, but it can also be one of the reasons we may fall behind in school. Find what works best for you! This will take time and is different for every student, so don't compare!
Our study rooms on the 3rd floor are my first choice- but sometimes it can get full, so the medical building is great and it's right across the street! I also love studying at chill coffee shops in the area (I personally love Cincy Cafe and the 86, both close to campus :) any place with a white board will do!
Make sure you know how YOU study! Pharmacy school can be lots of content, and it can get stressful. Do whatever works for YOU! Even if that means making Quizlets, rewriting your notes, or joining study groups. Don't just memorize the content, if you know why something happens it's much easier to put the pieces together! Also, you're always welcome to reach out to your upperclassmen, they've been where you've been and we are happy to help :)
They throw a lot at you the first semester…but you can do it. They try to coordinate the class schedules to maximize your success. Try to study each week/weekend if you can and that will help from having to cram before an exam…which is not always a good way to study for some of these classes.
Our class made a Quizlet group that everyone could add/share flashcard sets with - use them!
They offer tutors to help… if you think you need help, talk to the office that sets up tutors and get some help… they want you to succeed - but if they feel you’re falling behind, they will also reach out to you, so don’t be afraid!
The best place for you to study depends on your personal study habits. Here are some of the more popular places to study:
- Student Lounge – Room 339
- Empty Classrooms – you may use whatever is unlocked and there is no class scheduled
- Front Lobby
- • QUIET Study Lounge – Room 109, 134, 150, 209, 334, 335
- • Group Rooms 338-348
- • 1st and 2nd Floor Collaboration Space
- • University Hospital Cafeteria
- • Skills Lab (on the 2nd floor) when not in use
- • Health Sciences Library in the Care Building across the street
Lockers are available for student use on the first and second floor. This is a great place to store things that you’ll need frequently, like calculators, white coats, and blood pressure cuffs. If you are interested in having a locker, all you have to do is bring your own lock and select an open locker. Lockers need to be cleaned out at the end of each academic year.
At the back of the lockers on the first and second floor, there are multiple lockers with items you may need throughout school. We call it the BearCat Pantry! It has school supplies, snacks, OTC meds, toiletries, etc! If you are in need, please feel free to you. If you have extra items to share, please donate! It is sustained by the donations of our students, faculty and staff. Take when you need, give when you can!
Piada (down the street on MLK) has a $9 student discount (entree + large fountain drink) all day Wednesday and 2 PM - 5 PM Monday-Sunday. Subway and Chipotle are also accessible restaurants.
Other good restaurants in Clifton: Drunken Bento, Drunken Taco, Adeep, Skyline, Graeter's
Drunken Bento is always my treat for after exams if you love sushi, I also love Cincy deli or Ninja Grill on a good day! The 86 and Cincy Cafe are great coffee shops, there's also a Dunkin right across the way with a drive thru if you're in a rush!
All our classes besides one or two over the years, are in the JLWCOP building. Everyone is nice and willing to show you around or answer a question for you if you’re lost.
Keep business cards from ALL your IPPE’s you go on. Summer shadow experiences before your 1st year, 2-week IPPEs before your 2nd year and the monthly shadows you do with P4’s during your 3rd summer. These are super helpful when you’re creating/updating your CV. I highly suggest writing thank you’s to all your IPPE preceptors too. Sending a thank you note to a preceptor is a great way to show appreciation and leave a positive impression. It helps build a professional relationship that could benefit you later if you need a reference, internship, or job opportunity. And if you ever need to reach out, you have all their contact info!
I feel as though UC viewed me as an individual when I was going through the application process. I had been through some difficult life experiences throughout my educational career, that didn’t reflect how motivated and dedicated I was to pursuing pharmacy school. They didn’t just view me as another applicant. They considered all of my achievements over the years, my personal essay, and my work experiences including my experience working as a pharmacy technician.
Other students who applied to multiple programs shared that UC stood out because of its well-rounded experiential opportunities. They felt UC offered more diverse experiences across different areas of pharmacy, which ultimately influenced their decision to choose UC. With University Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and the VA Medical Center all located nearby, UC offers unparalleled hands-on learning across community, hospital, ambulatory, pediatric, and veteran-care settings.

Why Pharmacy? I’ve always known I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field, but I wasn’t initially sure which path to take. In high school, I participated in a program called MedTrack, which exposed me to a wide range of healthcare professions. Through this experience, I quickly discovered that I don’t handle bodily fluids well. This realization helped narrow down my options. I ultimately chose pharmacy because it offers meaningful patient interaction while allowing me to explore my passion for chemistry.
